Newly Dedicated Children of Community with their Families.

February Birthday and Wedding Anniversary Celebrators.

Welcoming a new member of the family truly brings great joy. We in the community celebrated with gladness as we formally welcomed both the new-born children of HTC members as well as children of the newly committed brothers and sisters in the community. For this reason, we celebrated on February 17, 2017 – Sunday, the Day of Dedication. This ceremony is based on the account in the bible when Christ Jesus was presented by his foster father Saint Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary at the temple in Jerusalem. Both Joseph and Mary embraced their duties and responsibilities as parents to Jesus. With humility and joy, they followed the law of the Lord and on that occasion they have witnessed how Jesus was proclaimed to be “a revealing light to the Gentiles, the glory of Israel”. We in the community would like to follow the path that Joseph and Mary took, that is, as parents, embracing the duties and responsibilities that the Lord has given them. On that day of dedication, the fathers of the family presented their children to the whole community with joy and pride. The children who were presented were Matthew and Samantha Cainglet, Cosette and Anikka Cubarrubia, Kasandra Batucan, Marius and Joseph Corona, Samantha Gutierrez, Justin and Julliann Gonzales, Angelo and Gabriel Boragay, Julliane Revillame, Xander and Comrad Bonhoc, Bella and Miguel Gelacio, Sofia, Rafael and Orlando Samson, and David Magmanlac. It is our community’s prayers that these children will continue to grow with love and joy in the hands of the Lord. And one day, see these children grow to serve and love the Lord like their parents. (Continued on page 3) Credits to Jayson Nadela for photos used in this article.

By Gika Triz B. Alidon, North F This year’s HTC theme, “Spread Out Unsparingly, Make Firm Your Stakes” was launched and presented during the general assembly on February 12. The general assembly began with a mass officiated by Fr. Ely Ubag at the Ateneo Grade School Chapel. We then had our praise and worship led by Paul Garcia, Kairos Ministry head. During the praise and worship, he also gave everyone the opportunity to reflect more deeply about this year’s theme and what it means to each one of us personally. Simultaneously, the Friends of Jesus (FOJ) and Junior Young Adults (JYA) also had their respective activities. The FOJ watched an animated film about the story of creation, consistent with the gospel readings for the past week. Meanwhile, the JYA had arts and crafts. They dressed up paper bags in keeping with the valentine theme and gave these to their parents as presents.

After the praise and worship, the Young Adults also had their own activity. The boys and girls were grouped separately and listened to the talk on “True Love Waits” given by Matthew Famador for the boys and Regine Guino for the girls. Meanwhile, at the general assembly, Nicol Fernandez, South District Coordinator, presented the new affiliate members of HTC. Affiliate members are those who: (1) completed the Life in the Spirit Seminar or an equivalent course; (2) have at least attended Module 1 of Foundation Courses 1; (3) cannot live out their commitment in the outreaches of HTC, namely, Christ’s Youth in Action, Ang Lingkod ng Panginoon and Emmaus Way, and; (4) willing to sign the commitment and attend the next Community Weekend (if they have not attended it yet). Affiliate members will be joining the assemblies of HTC and will be included in the Men’s and Women’s Groups. The new affiliate members of HTC are

Gilbert and Julie Ann Gelacio, Chris Jandic and Jared Buagas. Their commitment brings up the total members of HTC to 201 active members. Gammy Urbi, Evangelization Ministry Head, also presented the theme of Emmaus Way for this year, that is, “Light of the World, Salt of the Earth”. In line with this year’s theme, our Senior Coordinator, Cesar Mozar, laid out how we will live out our theme concretely by way of our plans and programs for this year or the 2017 Community Directions. Since 2013, the community has been implementing a five-year Community Action Plan (2013-2018) which is consistent with the Sword of the Spirit ten-year plan (20102020). The three main areas of our Community Directions are: Way of Life, Leadership and Mission.

The new affiliate members of HTC welcomed by their Pastoral Leaders. Way of Life Cesar Mozar, recalled the community action plan in 2013 which said that “In the area of way of life, we said that by 2020 we will have a full member status in the Sword of the Spirit and Underway B status within the next 3 years.” True enough, HTC was able to attain Underway B Status in 2016. Furthermore, it is also our goal to “grow in numbers to at least 300 members by 2018, divided in to four districts - two married districts, one university district and one singles’ district”. He also said that it is our goal to “consistently implement our program for way of life to attain at least 85% compliance. During the last survey, many have been complying with our way of life”, he recalled. “In our Strengthening Way of Life Programs, we are following seven themes, at two years per theme. Last year, we focused on Family Life and Caring for One

Another. This year we will continue [with] Caring for One Another and refresh ourselves on Financial Giving, he added. Leadership “Our goal is by 2018 is to develop sufficient number of leaders to cover all community needs as well as another 20% to be available for outreach and expansion work”, Mozar added. As of now, we have barely enough leaders and servants. To address this, the community will continue to follow the Leaders’ Training Macroschema (which we started implementing last year). Mission In the area of mission, Cesar Mozar emphasized that “our first mission field is our children, and second is ‘the lost, the least and the last’. For our first mission field, we have our Kairos Program. For our second mission field, we have Emmaus, CYA and Ang Lingkod ng Panginoon.

“Our main vehicle for evangelization is Emmaus Way and our goal is to strengthen it by adding more members”, Mozar added. JYA busy with their arts and crafts.

3 Celebrations… (Continued from Page 1.)

After the Dedication Ceremony, we presented and honored the brothers and sisters who celebrated and will be celebrating their 50thbirthday this year. The celebrants were joyful

throughout the ceremony, saying their prayer of thanksgiving to the Lord for the blessing of 50 wonderful years. Many of them were teary-eyed and smiling as they prayed. It is a blessing to witness this moment wherein we, as a community, celebrate the life the Lord has given us. These celebrations are proof of how high and how wide the Lord’s love is. Whether we are young, old, a new or long-time

member of community, life is worth celebrating because we are assured that the Lord loves us tremendously.

Theology Weekend participants from HTC with Dr. Jake Yap.

The third Mindanao Theology Weekend was held at Davao Eagle Ridge Resort on February 25-26 with 75 attendees

coming from Davao City, Malaybalay, and Cagayan de Oro .This one-and-a-half day Theology seminar tackled topics on Moral Theology such as Human Freedom and Conscience, The Morality of Human Acts and Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery. It is interesting to note that all the participants are men leaders from Holy Trinity Community (Davao City),The Light of the World Community (CDO),The Good Shepherd Community (Maramag) and Ang Buhing Pulong (Malaybalay). To answer the question as to why only men are invited to this Theology weekend,Dr. Jake Yap the lecturer,a Theologian and professor of Theology at the Loyola School of Theology and a brother of the Servants of the Word, has this to say: “Teaching is a governmental role.Teaching is a ruling function because when we teach,we expect to be followed. And in a Christian community, this is the role of men leaders.”
